Chattahoochee River Hike Series
Settles Bridge Trail
Saturday August 29th
By Jim Norvill
It was another perfect day for hiking trekkers Bob Brier, Jim Norvill, Gail Priest, Charles Williams, Arlene Horesh, Ellen Miller, Scott Harriss, Stanley Williams, Sandra Mooreland, and Morris Horesh.
We met at the Sandy Springs REI parking lot at 9:00 am sharp, Ellen Miller assigned riders for the carpool. Drivers were, Jim Norvill, Morris Horesh, and Charles Williams.
We drove for about 30 minutes up 400 to our trail head at Settles Bridge. After piling out of the cars, everyone put on their hiking boots, we took a group picture and we were off.
The hiking trail went along the Chattahoochee River for a while and then turned north east into a piece of land owned by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. This three mile hike had flat terrain, and was beautifully populated with plants and trees everywhere. We had only one gulley to traverse, but with the help from our bridges Bob Brier and Scott Harriss everyone was able to cross.
Our hike ended up at the Settles Bridge. We sat and stretched on the boat ramp as we watched the Kayakers landing and trying to dismount their kayaks.
All in all it was another wonderful Chattahoochee River Trail hike in our series each month. The next hike is scheduled for Saturday September 19th. We meet at Sandy Springs REI parking lot at 9:00am sharp!
Pack a lunch, bring water, and be ready for a fun time.
